Dance, Culture + Community

It’s hard to capture community in a few photos — but these moments come close.

Under the guidance of Benedict, a community leader from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) diaspora here in Mildura, local children gathered for a joyful dance session, learning cultural traditions and movements passed down through generations.

This was more than just a workshop, it was an opportunity to celebrate identity, strengthen community ties, and nurture the next generation of storytellers through dance.

Community Spirit

The session was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Christie Centre, whose backing ensures community members can come together in inclusive and creative spaces. We are also grateful to Creative Victoria and Regional Arts Victoria for their continuing support and guidance, helping us to create opportunities for culture and creativity to flourish here in the Mallee.

Community leaders and partners including VicHealth, Kylie from Community Music Victoria, Jill, Stevie, Aunty Patsy, and Aunty Ada all continue to shape how we connect with one another and nurture local talent. And though they don’t seek recognition, leaders like Claire K and Jane play an equally vital role. Their passion is contagious and deeply felt.

Flourishing in the Mallee

We might be geographically isolated here in the Mallee, but the diversity, talent, and generosity of spirit in our community is the hidden bedrock that makes this place so special. Events like this remind us that when we come together, we create something truly inspiring.

We are forever grateful to be part of this community — one that continues to grow, dance, and dream together.
